CareerNet International Case Study 3

International Multi-Geography Outplacement Provision – Media & Entertainment Multinational

Background

Following a number of acquisitions, a global leader within the music industry, commissioned CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL to support the career transition needs of up to 200 employees in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Italy and the US, commencing Q3, 2007.

CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL’s UK partner, HDA Associates, provided the central co-ordination point for programmes to be delivered through the CareerNet International (CNI) international network. This also allowed for a centralized reporting mechanism, covering progress in all international locations, back to the corporate client.

CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL delivery was seamlessly carried out by the following CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL partners, (alphabetically): Agora (Sweden) CB&A (Italy), Challenger, Gray & Christmas (USA), HDA Associates (UK) and SKP AG (Germany), within a centralized client relationship structure.

The Project

  1. Staff Communication and Expectation Setting

CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL ran a series of employee Overview Sessions at a number of international sites, (where this was feasible given time constraints) with all employees being encouraged to attend. Following Overview Sessions, (where these took place), CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL Career Consultants spent an additional day onsite, to provide Critical Time Counselling to those employees that needed further support.

In addition CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL provided the following, where possible:

    • Welcome packs containing information on CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL’s local partner, and also individual programme components in local country format
    • An Online Resource Centre which provides useful information and advice to those experiencing career transition
    • Research documents on the music industry, media industry, the job market and roles in the industry
  2. Outplacement/Career Transition Support Employees in three organisations (the acquiring company and two acquisition companies) across five countries were comprehensively supported via CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL outplacement programmes most appropriate for local needs, designed in conjunction with the HR Team in order to provide support specific to the needs of the employees within the acquiring organisation and within the organizations being acquired. The project again demonstrated CAREERNET INTERNATIONAL’s ability to:
    • Successfully manage a large cross-border project from a central location, (in this case, the UK), with centralized client relationship management and reporting
    • Respond at high speed during a period of significant change across multiple locations
    • Provide various forms of career transition support – online, one-to-one and group-based support, subject to specific local needs, at various levels, from senior managers to entry-level staff
    • Ensure local and cross-border flexibility at all stages of the support programme
    • Support client organisations to maintain staff morale and to foster positive employee relations, and enhance the employer brand during a difficult period of complex change
    • Enhance the ease with which international organizational changes were implemented and accepted
